The aerial won't be useless, just not as good, as it wasn't designed for the particular channels digital uses.
If you live close to the transmitter and have a stonking signal, you may well get away with it.
If you don't, you'll have to upgrade your aerial.

You'll need a digital box first. I didn't have to change my areal which I've had on the roof for years. I think it depends on where you live!

basically, no. Your old arial will be useless and will not receive anything ... unless, maybe, your tv is already prepared for digital and has a built-in receiver, in this case i am not sure but i think the whole idea is to do away with external antennas and arials

No, in 2015 our good old analogue tellies will be useless.

PS : No offence intended, may I respectfully point out it's "aerial" - sorry, I'm a spelling nazi.
