Quran was the oral message of Mohamed. Logically he was the author. But, Mohamed being an illiterate, could not read or write, Muslims consider Quranic verses as God's verses. Everything happened in the scientific era. So the verses were protected and verified and maintained without inserts or adulteration.

The Muslim Prophet Muhammed wrote it, but Angel Gabriel sent him messages from Allah, telling him exactly what to write.

The first verse is a description of what happened. Angel Gabriel was sent to Muhammed with the message to "Read". Muhammed said: "But i can not read." Again "Read" said the voice, to which Muhammed answered "But i can not read". "Read" said the voice a third time. Muhammed replied "What shall i read?" And the first verse of the Holy Qur'an was recited.
