Hey everyone, I wanted to ask what you think about this situation;someone who's been feeling depressed for over 6 months & for no main reason, she finds it hard to wake up in the morning for college, she either eats alot or never eats, she's always in her room smoking r'listening to music, used to love going out n'hanging with friends, but now, whenever she leaves home, she gets depressed & hates everything around her.
she finds it very hard to sleep & when she does, she sleeps for 12 hours straight. She has suicidal thoughts but in her religion it's forbidden to kill oneself, so she'll never do it, Sometimes her eyes would tear for no reason, whenever she's in her bed at night, she thinks "what if" someone she loves dies & worries & cries about it alot.
her interest in t.v isn't like before, she rarely watches anything, she's just in her room studying or online or listening to music & that's it.
Could my friend be suffering from depression ?& to what level ?
How can I help her??

You can make her appt. with a psycologist. She has all the syptoms of depression. They made need to put her on some meds. it seems to be moderate to severe and couseling and meds will fix her right up and get her thinking more positive then negative, i hope you stay with her through this she will need you and you will feel more knowledge and skilled and great about yourself helping her go through it. No big deal tell her. Many many people. have depression . Have it taken care of. Your doing great already be trying to find out how to help god bless

Well you are a true friend for seeking help for her. And so should she. It is not normal for a healthy young person to be depressed in a world where there is so much to experience and enjoy. The thing is, some people are depressed for a reason and some are biochemically predisposed to depression. Either way professional help can help them see the sun in their lifes. It's something she'll laugh about ten years from now. If you get her to accept she'll need some professional to talk to.

Encourage her to goto the student counseling center. If you are in college (or she is), you can go there FREE for a certain number of sessions.

Alot of student counseling centers are really good and will help your friend work through her depression.

Sounds like depression to me. You should try to encourage her to go out with you and show her a good time (without drinking).
