I'm not being a smart *** here, but you need to go test drive both vehicles and make your own decision.
My question for you is what is your intention of use for the vehicle?
Now as far as Mr I know a lot about cars reply.....I have a Wrangler as a everyday driver and its a fun car to own. Yes Toyota keeps their value but, so do the open air JEEPS. I can sell my 1991 Wrangler for 7K right now w/207,000 miles on it. With open air JEEPS the Kelly blue book is not a factor for resale value. I've seen 1985 CJs for sale from $7K to $12K. We won't take 5 and talk about reliability w/ Jeeps either....note my miles. My buddies 1993 Jeep has 350,000 mile. The 4.0 is one of the best American motors every produced.
As for nuts and bolts....Jeep was not around in the 30s or 40s it came out in 1954 and was produce by Willys and Ford(for a short period). As for the trail rated badge....its just a sticker that Chrysler marketing dept made up. And if you decided to buy a Toyota, chances are it is American made. So you will be supporting Americans. Toyota did just take the #3 spot in sales in America, dropping Chrysler(JEEP) to the #4 spot for a reason. Fun fact....my Jeep was made in Canada not Detroit!
I had to get that out. People sometimes just irritates me.

I am a huge Jeep fan I have 6 of them and I'm only 20. but I will do my best not to be bias. well just going of history Jeep was in fact the first 4x4 ever made that ran off a single motor, in 1941 with the Willys MB. Toyota came along in 1945. so Jeep has been in it a bit longer. The thing I don't like about the FJ is the doors are light and there is not much room inside. Over all it's not a well made vehicle but thats toyota for you. On the other hand the Jeep Wrangler does come in a 4 door and it it a better buy it starts at a little under 20,000 new as where the FJ starts at 22,000 but you almost have to push it, it's got nothing. but the thing i love about the unlimited is altho it has 4 doors and a bit longer wheel base it still has off roading stats that compare to a hummer H1. as where the FJ curser is not even in the same league. The FJ has about the same stats as the Jeep Liberty. So as far as 4x4 goes it's not really even fair to compare the two. on road how ever the new Wranglers have been much more refined it's night and day compared to the older TJ's the JK is no joke on or off the road it does not have little plastic gadgets that really do nothing. and it has 4 full doors that come off and the top comes off it's just and ideal for a family that enjoys the off road or just want to pick up something from the super market. I hope this Helps!

Well my answer may be biased due to the fact I work for an automotive company. I would go with the Jeep Wrangler, the Jeep brand has been around since the late 30 s early 40 s and the Jeep Wangler name plate your looking at was introduced in 2004. The Jeep brand is synonymous with off road driving. The Jeeps today are Trail Rated to insure there off road capabilities.
They are made in Detroit, Michigan by hard working U.A.W. members (all the auto workers jokes aside) they started here in America and they will finish here in America.. Besides that blue toyota fj cruiser looks like a toy you will find in a cracker jack box. Do you want your hard working American Dollars here in America or are you looking to support Chow Jin Yang in Japan

toyota fj cruiser is an excellent product with decent off-road capability even without any upgrades. however, the jeep wrangler has been around for a long time and is well known for tis off-road capabilities. the jeep wrangler also has lots of aftermarket support if you wanted to install a lift or put on a bigger set of tires or maybe even a winch, so i would go with the jeep

The FJ Cruiser is much more comfortable, much easier to live with on regular roads and highways, has pretty much equivalent off-road ability to any Jeep short of the Rubicon and is of superior quality and reliability overall.
Just looking at both side-by-side and seeing how they are built, paying attention to details, like the interior etc. will make the obvious.
The Toyota will also retail it's value much better.
Jeep Wrangler is only the choice if you are going for the bare bones 4 cyl model for an off road machine to beat on or if you are going for the top model Rubicon to climb boulders. It sucks as a daily driver from the bouncy ride to the scarily vague steering and Jeep reliability is suspect whereas Toyota's is impeccable. Easy decision my friend.
