My husband and I have been married for 3 years. We want to renew our wedding vows, but can't figure out an appropriate year to do it. Is 5 years of being married too early to renew vows?

My wedding was rushed a little. My husband had gotten word that he was going to Iraq. The original date for the wedding was July 4, 2005, but was bumped up to December 20,2003. I had 3 weeks to plan! Not all my family and his family could make it on such short notice. It would be nice to renew our vows. I appreciate all answers.

Considering the circumstances surrounding your wedding, I think five years would be a perfect time to renew your vows - and invite everybody to celebrate. Don't let yourself be structured by someone else's idea of how and when to recommit. You have so very much to celebrate, so why not.

You can do what you want, but there's a reason most people wait for a milestone anniversary. It's just part of the tradition. Also, when you mention the economy...I'm not sure what you're planning, but vow renewals are not generally elaborate. The couple writes new vows to reflect what's happened in 10 years, and their pledges for the future. Then there's a celebration, usually a dinner at their home for their closest family and friends. Or sometimes it's just the 2 of them and they do it at a destination. So I'm not sure what the economy has to do with it.

Couples renew their vows for a variety of reasons.
Sometimes they've been through a bad patch and want to reaffirm their love; sometimes there's been an indescretion & they need a new start. Others renew them to mark a particular anniversary such as 10 or 25 year. And there are some who do trenew them EVERY year.
So if you want to do this go ahead & plan. There is never a bad time to recommit.

Usually it is at 25 years, though lately I've heard of people doing it after 10 years.
Renewing your vows would have nothing to do whether your wedding was "rushed" or not as you put it.... Do you just want a party? If so, just have everyone over for a barbecue or something.
Just in case you don't know, renewal of vows is not like another wedding! Most people just have a simple ceremony, sometimes during or after a regular service at their church, then have friends and close family to their home for a meal.

I think that five or ten years would be a good time to renew your vows. If your marriage has been a good marriage up to this point and there have been no serious tragedies that the two of you have had to overcome. I would wait until ten years of marriage.

I think it varies for everyone. It depends if there is someone in your family that is ill and won't be around or what...my friend and her hubby did it after 3yrs because his mother became very ill...Some people do it because their spouse has been over seas or away...some do it because they were pregnant the first time or not all of the family and friends could be there...although 3 yrs is a long time...5yrs just has that ring to it...kinda like a reunion...

I believe that your vows can be renewed whenever you feel there has been a major change in your relationship. When my husband cheated and I finallly forgave him, we considered renewing our vowels for a fresh start.
