I am going to Kenya and am kinda freaked out at the side effects of these drugs. I have heard of people experiencing serious nausea, hallucenogenic dreams, etc. Anyone ever taken them with side effects?

the 'hallucinogenic' drug you refer to is Mefloquine (Lariam). Not that ba, but can cause bizzare dreams and neuropsychiatric symptoms in susceptible people (especially those with history/family history of depression).

I've taken Doxycycline for over a year, no problems, just make sure to take it AFTER a meal; it can cause gastric irritation.

The BEST precaution you can take is sleep under a mosquito net (insecticide-impregnated) and use repellants.

Hope this helps.

The drug that causes the hallucinations is Mefloquin(Lariam). The best way to take it is in the morning when you are up all day so that by the time you are going to bed the effects have receeded.
The problems are when you take it at bed time. you can try to take Doxycycline but there are ressistant strains of malaria in the East African region and so it might not be fully effective against all types.

For the main area, you do not might desire to take anti-malarials in Costa Rica. the place you do, you will possibly desire to take chloriquine, you do not want the extra unique drugs. the only places the place there have been reported malaria circumstances to be concerned approximately have been alongside the Nicaraguan border and interior the province of Limon. for that reason i might probable take chlorquine in case you will spend time in Limon, Puerto Viejo or the Talamanca area because of the fact in case you're interior the Atlantic area you could properly be going to those places. i does not hardship approximately malaria on the Pacific area. The CDC warnings are very regularly used and native, so as that they only provide an widespread theory.
