Yes, I often visit art galleries and I try to go as early in the day as possible to avoid the rush. I find peace and inspiration in looking at art and to interpret a painting trying to find the message of the artist is a wonderful experience.
I doesn't matter if you are a scholar or not, art is for everyone to admire and nothing can change the feeling that occur when looking at a painting and enjoying the work of the artist.

I was told that I was a complete nutcase for wasting my time looking at 4 of Mary paintings by Leo da Vinci in the hoping of finding a clue of some sort. I squinted at them like Mr. Magoo, then I started to act like inspector gadget using a magnifying glass even wet to the extent of wearing a pair of me dad’s old glass until I got fed up when I kept bumping into things, tried to use a mirror and look at them that way but I ended up all blotchy as I couldn’t leave me spots alone (a bad idea that was) and finally I done a hand stand to get an upside view to them. So don’t tell me people don’t appreciate art any more... There are some who still do.
Oh yes perseverance did pay off in the end!
If interested focus in and on the brooch Mary wears you will see what I found. Hmm interesting
See I’m not mad after all. Got to go now, the physiatrist has just come back.
Tara then.

Yes, I do it quite frequently. Where I work, in the hallway on the way to the bathrooms there are two Van Gogh paintings "A Vase of Roses" and "Sunflowers" Because I took a few Art History courses, I know why he painted these pictures and I frequently stop and appreciate them even though they are just pictures by a bathroom. I can almost guarantee that no one else has stopped and looked at them as much as I have since they were hung there, and I have only worked at this store for about 6 months and the store is well over 20 years old.

That is what makes it so much more enjoyable and necessary to view art. The fact that it is created by people, not computer programs (usually) is a testament to humans. Just like picking up a book once in a while, instead of just watching the movie, or playing a board or card game with people, versus the machine.
It is called interaction with other humans, and nothing can replace it.

oh, yes...people of intelligence MAKE & TAKE the time to appreciate art: paintings, sculpture, dance, music, poetry, a novel, a short story: any and all artform.
it is the contrived stuff coming at us from t.v. and such that people of intelligence don't have the time (or patience) for...

Only if you're in a reasonably quiet gallery where there aren't 500 tourists with headphones on standing on your feet.
