I think a hair straightener and flat iron are the same. I suggest you use the CHI flat iron. It is ceramic and less damaging to the hair. I use CHI silk infusion and rub it throughout the hair evenly (just apply a dime size amount- non-greasy). Next section your hair and each time before you put the flat iron through your hair I spray Aveda Brilliant Damage Control (or Motions Heat Protector can be found in the black hair products aisle- non greasy or heavy on the hair) Spray lightly. When done straightening the entire head put a dime size amount of Farouk BioSilk Silk Therapy (non-greasy) and wha laa. Your hair is shiny, silky, and smells nice. Just a quick tip, when putting the flat iron in the hair, turn it a little at the end like a curling iron and it leaves the tips/ends of your hair really pretty. Good luck!

Okay they are the same thing just the only thing is that they are different names. You will want to watch the plates on the flat iron or straightener what ever you woudl like to call it you want ceramic plates only!! they are less damaging to the hair. and you want to use a shine serum such as Matrix Sleek Look Smoothing Serum, Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, Biosilk Shine Serum, Joico Kpac Shine Serum or Catwalk Camera Ready. Those are all the products i've used and liked with my flat iron. All you need to use is a drop or two or a couple sprays depending on which one you pick and never put on roots! other wise tou will be greasy!

A flat iron was just the first name of the hair straightner. I guess people thought that the name flat iron wasn't very cool so they changed it to hair straightner.

the CHI is really good.. it's gonna run u about $100+, but it really works well. u should also get a hair serum to protect against heat. good luck

what's also cute is u can make AWesome waves w/ the straightener!

No there is no difference...you should get one that is ceramic....a real ceramic, w/ real ceramic plates that get darker when they heat up....not ceramic-like plates that have ceramic coating...even tho those are better for your hair than regular plates they do not prevent hair damage from heat as much as the pure ceramic plates do..I have ceramic coated plates...cuz its cheaper, but i use a thermal straightening serum that protects my hair.

Actually, most people think that there is not a difference but the real difference is that hair straighteners don't burn your hair much.

its the same thing. just rub a little bit of biosilk serum on your hair before you straighten it and you'll have soft and shiny hair.

There is no difference. It's just what people decide to call it. Like some say "pop" while others say "soda".
