please keep comments about religion being a convenient excuse for war over land, power and resources to yourself. if the crusades and the inquisition were about anything besides religion, then so is islamic terrorism.

In some places talking about evolution can get you killed.

None that I know of. What you must realize by now is that people who believe in Holy war are misguided and wrong to say the least. I'm praying that God will deliver the Iraqi's from war and reconciliation between the Shiites and Sunnis. Just because some of the people who worship God or claim to say that war is OK does not mean we all believe this lie. God does not condone violence. I know this as I commune with Him daily and even when I think about doing people who make me angry harm He makes me feel I'm wrong. When I refuse to forgive He patiently waits on to as He knows I know better.
But none the less there may have been some deaths from science back in the day they wanted to kill Galileo because of his theories about stars and such. These religious people who did this in my opinion were really far from God and don't really know Him. Science is good. God made us curious and intelligent for a reason.
Anyway I hope that you have a great day. I would like to ask that you not lump us all together like that though. Really the only thing some of us have in common is belief in God. Some of us actually seek Him and learn that we are called to love everybody even religious bigots and atheist.
By the way I was Agnostic at one time. Never say never.

Lol did you mean other than the war on Y/A R&S over them?

I'm with ya.. the crusades and inquisition were about a mandate from the Church to force conversions on people or wipe them out.

First, please show me actual doctrine that sanctions the crusades. Perhaps if Islamic invaders were not conquering Europe, Pope Urban wouldn't have united the people to stand against the invaders with religion. As for the inquisition, what evil people do with religion is not religion itself. Islamic terrorism is sanctioned in the Koran.
Hitler killed people based on theories of evolution.

None that I know of, there have plenty of Evolution and Big Bang "Cold Wars" though.

Both theories are still in their infancy, I doubt either will be proven or disproven in our lifetime.

religion is not the same thing as God. Power and power hungriness comes from people not God. Evolution is causing wars even now. Perhaps not the kind that you are thinking of. It is evolution that says if a person does something evil and gets caught then he deserves to die. Because after all they are no better than the animals.

I can't think of evolution or the big bang as being the rallying cry for anyone going to war. Yet, the two biggest murderers in history where atheists, they being Joseph Stalin and Mao Tse Tsung.

although it wasn't a war, I've heard that Stalin did some rather awful things to scientists supporting Darwin over lamarck.
