I had posted earlier about not being able to find quality cat foods in my location, but did find a bird feed store today that carries Innova. I bought a bag of Innova EVO Cat and Kitten to try on my 2 4 month old kittens. The price/4 lbs actually seems to be comparable to Science Diet, and only about 0.50/lb more than Purina One. Is this considered a decent quality cat food? Should I be concerned that its' cat and kitten food seems to be one formula?

Hi there...Innova EVO is one of leading premium brands of food you can offer for cats and kittens. Innova EVO for cats and kittens contains no fillers (e.g. corn, corn meal) and byproducts (e.g. beaks, feathers, rendered animals, etc). It is fine for both since it is very high in protein which kittens need.

When switching to a new brand of cat food it is also important to note that sudden changes can cause sever bowel distress. Cats especially kittens have very sensitive digestive systems so the quick change will cause bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting. Any vet can confirm this fact. Cat food should be changed gradually by mixing the current brand with the new brand over the course of several weeks. For example you would take 3/4 servings of the old cat food to 1/4 servings with the new for one week...then the next week 1/2 to 1/2...then following 1/4 of the old to 3/4 of the new in the third week before completing the switch in the final week. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/article.cfm?dept_id=0&aid=100

Innova was one of the first brands to manufacture high quality pet food. The Innova Evo would be an excellent choice. Use some of their canned with the kittens too if that is available. They do not have a lot of variety in their cat food - the Evo is totally grain free I believe and since cats have no need for grains and may be allergic to them it's a good choice.

Kittens do not need special formulation in their food any different from adult cats. That's just a marketing ploy. A mother cat does not bring her kittens special "kitten mice" when she weans them so the concept is ludicrous. All any cat or kitten needs is a high quality meat intense food.

There are other quality foods in canned and dry and you can go to www.petfooddirect.com and read the details on the formulation of almost any cat food you can imagine. You might want to order from them and look into Natural Balance (canned and dry), Solid Gold (dry), CA Natural (dry), Eagle Pack, Felidae, etc.

Yes, as previous posters have said - this is one of the better brands of premium cat food out there. My mother feeds this to her cat - it has no fillers, is all-natural, and is extremely low in carbs, of which cats don't need. By all means, don't worry about the quality - as long as your cats like it, feed away!

Innova is one of the best foods out there. As long as your kitties like it and will eat it, it's fine.
