It would seem that it is as NH Baritone says in "Do Christians really oppress you?" "-Promoting the enslavement of women by preventing them from controling their own bodies."

Ronald regan once said "I find it more and more intresting that, nowadays, the only peopl who support abortion are those that have already been born."

your answer reminded me of that quote.

It's one way of looking at it. I certainly don't want to feel as if someone else is forcing me to do certain things with my body. I'm not sure I'd use the word 'enslavement' but I get what they are saying. It's just that that comment doesn't address the issue that pro-life people, as far as I know, are honestly NOT interested in 'telling people what to do' as much as they are trying to save what they believe to be a baby. When you think of it that way, pro-life people don't care what women do with their bodies as long as they are not 'killing a baby'.

I can sympathize with both sides.

Not as you have laid it out here.... I don't agree with Abortion on the basis that a woman just doesn't want the responsibility (If you don't want the responsibility, then you do whatever it takes so you don't end up in that situation). To use abortion as Birth Control shows a great lack of self-respect, as well as a lack of respect for life in general. (Even though I Am Pro-Choice... I have many "strings" that go along with it lol) The way I see it, as far as using abortion as birth control... if you can't control your body Before you have sex... then who's to say you're in control now??????

But, that's only using the point when Abortion is being used as Birth Control. There are other reasons, and on those, I wouldn't dare place myself in their shoes to make that decision for them... it certainly isn't my place. But I think the "enslavement" thing is taking it too far........ For the most part, most women who get pregnant agreed to the sex to begin with... so it's hardly enslavement.

Christianity as well as most all religions is all about control - rule setting - and punishment for transgressors. Christians have enslaved millions and I really mean enslaved you know having slaves to do your work. It is part of the religion - part of the bible; god give you permission; a rule handed down by your god. So enslavement is the word of god (if you're a believer) YOU MUST ad-hear to these rules. And don't forget god commanded that if your neighbour works on the sabbath you MUST stone him/her to death.
Guess I'll see you at Wal Mart on Sunday to watch you and the other christians stoning your Sunday working neighbours. Right? Or have you chosen not to follow gods commands? Well have you?

Yeah, it's ridiculous. The whole issue in abortion, which pro-abortion-rights people don't want to face, is that it's not about the woman's control over her own body; it's about her control over *someone else's* body -- namely, the body of her unborn child. Just remember, folks, all of you were once zygotes.

I disagree with banning abortion. It should be no one's business except for the woman. What if she was raped? How could one want to force her to have that child? What if she was only a teenager when this happened? She would have the full responsibility of parenting, even though the cause of her pregnancy was not something she wanted.

There are two sides to the abortion issue. One, that you address, is the right of the woman over her body. The other is the right of the devoping lifeform within her to live. The question is, which one prevails?

Enslavement seems a rather harsh term and not quite on topic.

Belittlement might be a better choice.

No, you're not the only one who finds this ridiculous. Actually, it is the unborn children who can best be compared to slaves. They are called "non-persons" and may be abused and killed according to their "owner's" whim. For more on this, see:

It is a rhetorical device, I see the point.
