Couple of good ones out here already.
Heres what I got for you:
1) look it up
2) Mormons believe the Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Smith was given/found/inspired by to write/preach/teach what was written in this book. The book supposedly relates Christs works in North America
3) A bunch of unsubstantiated accounts from a bunch of crazy, religious fanatics.........................
Hope this can be of some assistance,
tom

First, it's MormOn, not An.
So, what they believe... They believe that the Bible is the word of God, so long as it is translated correctly. They use the King James version, with an appended Joseph Smith translation.
They believe that Joseph Smith found what is called "The Book of Mormon" and translated these gold leaf pages with the assistance of two stones called the Urim and the Thumim (spelling may be off as it's been a while). Thes pages tell of Christ visiting the American continent, and offer more testimony to Christ.
They believe that "as man is now, so God once was, and as God is now, so man may become". That we are on an eternal progression.
Their organization is based on the existence of prophesy, and they have a prophet, wich is somewhat like a pope.
They are a moral people, and beieve that faith without works is dead.

They are Christian with a little added mythology.
They believe in everything in the bible as well as the book of Mormon (which states that Jesus then cam to America and preached to all the natives - it also talks about how the people got to this land and so forth).
They Prefer ‘Church of Latter Day Saints’ to ‘Mormon’.
No, mormons believe Jesus ascended to heaven.
Edit: i mean ascended, not essended lol

A retired preacher in the early 19th. century tried his hand at writing what today we would call fantasy stories. After his death (his name was Solomon Spaulding) Joseph Smith obtained the manuscripts that Rev. Spaulding had written. Those texts that were supposedly translated off of golden tablets that God somehow left behind Smith's woodshed, are in Spaulding's handwriting.
So I guess they believe in science fiction and in taking over whatever they can so as to promote other Mormons careers.

Mormons believe that Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God, not God himself.
They believe that Jesus Christ is the only savior of the world, that He is the Son of God and also in the Holy Ghost. They believe that God continues to call Prophets, that revelation from God has not stopped.
They believe that the purpose of life is to grow and become more like God.
A lot more too...

Something about golden slabs written in a language that only he could read, and when provoked to re-tell it exactly, he couldn't and came up with the excuse that "jesus" would get mad, and that's why there are 2 versions.

A good book to read on the topic is, "Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith", by Jon Krakauer.
