If a light goes out, the rest of the lights stay lit if they are wired in parallel. In a series wiring, the whole chain goes out, and you have to try replacing every light one by one to find the one that is burnt out - and if there is more than one burnt out, you will never find them.

Parallel just allows the other lights to keep going if one burns out. BUT, the voltage/current will increase to the remaing bulbs. In turn burning those up faster. If you happen to see the burned out bulb replace it in a parallel system. Best to turn off power first. On a series circuit the whole string would go out making the burned bulb hard to find. Just make sure to replace the burned bulbs in the parallel circuit or you will soon be replacing them all. If you want get about 5 small tree lights and about 3 d cell batteries(in series) and wire up both circuits and see what happens. Removing lights in the parallel circuit will make the other lights brighter then finally poof. The series circuit will lead you to the Christmas headache, "When one light goes out they all go out." The battery test is very safe to handle. House current/voltage might make your hair smoke or eyes pop out. Be careful.

parallel lights use the same voltage with more current coming out of the start point. so all the lights are just as bright as the first. but in series you use the same current and the voltage keeps dropping everytime you hit a light. so the last bulb is dim compared to the first. parallel is better if you can manage it.

If u have a lot of bulbs the wire would need to be increased to carry the current. Not a good solution.
