WHAT DO YOU MEAN A LAP BAND? Are you talking about getting the child's stomach stapled or tied? You are in need of an education. That would constitute child abuse. How much junk food do you have in your house? Don't buy chips, cookies, candy, SODA, and all the other crap on the market. Eat healthy foods only. DON'T eat at McDonald's, Burger King or any fast food. Learn to cook healthy meals. There are a million cook books on the market. Do not eat between meals. Do not eat late night snacks. Get rid of all sugar in the house. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Last but not least exercise, exercise, exercise regular and often.

I wouldn't consider lap banding for a child until after the child has been through diet counseling, exercise routine and then if both failed to remove the weight, then see a surgeon for other alternatives.
Does your child go outside and play? If he/she is a tv or video junkie, or not into organized sports, might try something like rollerskating, swimming, or other types of exercise that do not necessarily feel like exercise or sports.

Why did you let your child get so obese? I do not feel it is right when a parent screws up that the insurance should have to foot the bill. If your child needs the surgery so bad, stop buying the junk food, take that money and pay for it yourself. You should feel horrible and do one good thing for your child/

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

First for us to be any help we need the age of your child.. And as one person wrote do you feed to the problem what kind of things do you leave in your house to snack on and what kind of roll do you give??? I can say the Lap band is great I have it myself but anyone out there that thinks that its the easy way out they have a lot to learn!!! it's work and a great learning experience not a road I would take a young child down. This is the time to teach the right way to eat it is your job take that job serious your child's life depends on it. Good luck!!!

How old? How obese? Move to Louisianna and apply for Medicaid, they will pick up the tab for the surgery. I read that the surgery is actually cheaper than the medical costs related to the obesity.

My heart goes out to all those obese kids out there. Especially the very young ones who are obese through no fault of their own, but whose parents hate themselves so much they try to kill their kid.
The clown is not your friend.
It depends on how old your child is, but once you've made a fat kid you have almost certainly made a fat adult.
Please don't have any more kids.
