Microsoft makes Word (and the rest of the Office programs) for Mac as well. The other thing that's currently available is iWork. If you own a newer Mac, there are demos for both that came with it located in your Applications folder. If your Mac is older, there's a program called Appleworks that is comparable if you're just using it for word processing and spreadsheets.

Well, the obvious answer is you will have to acquire Microsoft Office Mac Edition to have that type of direct functionality, but there is one application suite I know of that has the same functionality that cost zilch, bubcuss, nada.

OpenOffice is an open source program that has been proven to be able to open Office files, and has the same functionalities. It is also released in Windows, Linux, and Mac OS 10.x.x compatible versions.

Microsoft makes Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) for Macs too. If it isn't installed, you will have to buy it. You could try the free OpenOffice for Macs: http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/index.html
