after area is fully healed. Is it necessary to continue with non-alcohol based creams (Cetaphil is excellent)...in other words, will continual application of Cetaphil prolong the clarity or is the tattoo too deep to matter.

I was told by my tattoo artist to keep the tattoo covered with A&D Ointment for the first several days, not to pick at it if it scabbed over a bit and that after it was completely healed I could wash and moisturize it the same as the rest of my skin. She also said to use sunscreen on it if I was going to be out in the sun for any amount of time. I've had my tattoo for almost 7 years now and the lines are still sharp and clear and the color has held beautifully, so I completely trust her advice.

THROW AWAY YOUR CETAPHIL, that should never even been used on your tattoo in the first place....If you continue use of it yeah your tattoo is going to look bad years down the rd.

Tattoo AFTER CARE:
Dial Anti Bacterial Soap, wash lightly with your finger tips run under warm water, and pat dry.
Do not use any type of ointments On your fresh tattoo at least 2-3 days..let it bleed out the plasma and ink.
After that you can begin to use AQUAPHOR (found in your lotion aisle at any drug store) use a light amount to put over the tattoo.
****DONT EVER USE A&D OR NEOSPORIN*****
After about 7-10days you can use NON-ALCOHOL FRAGRANCE FREE lotion (Cruel or Lubriderm) daily.

First, it takes about 2 weeks for your tattoo to heal initially, depending on your personal healing time. As long as it is still flaking, or you are feeling that "tight" feeling it is a good idea to apply a small amount of your preferred cream to keep it moist. (A & D was always my favorite). But once that is flaking or tight feeling is gone, you should not have any trouble. The inks are far enough under the skin. However, you should always put at least 50SPF sunblock on your tattoos if they are exposed to the sun, as that will cause them to fade. You put alot of money, and alot of thought into your tattoos, so protect them.

After the tattoo is fully healed, you can use whatever lotion works best for your skin. Just remember to not scratch it and be careful in the sun. Always use a sunscreen.
Good luck!

after its fully healed it isnt necessary but...... I have had my tat for 8 years now, and after it was fully healed I put moisturizer on it every day ( mainly after I get out of the shower) so that my skin doesnt get dry. You dont have to do it but thats what I do, as do many of my friends ( many of which are nearly covered in tats)

Why don't you just ask the person who did the artwork for you? You paid for their services.
