QUESTION CONTINUED:If so, is that soul immortal or does it too eventually cease to exist. If the soul does continue to exist after death, what is the nature of that existence. If there is an existence after death, is “good” rewarded and “bad” punished. If so, how do you reconcile this with the concept of predestination?

"The soul that sins will die." - Ezekiel 18:4, 20.

Those who have died are not conscious are aware of anything, according to such passages as Psalm 146:4 & Ecclesiastes 9:5-10.

Jesus Christ even likened death to being asleep. Note John 11:11-14 --

11 He said these things, and after this he said to them: “Laz´a·rus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.” 12 Therefore the disciples said to him: “Lord, if he has gone to rest, he will get well.” 13 Jesus had spoken, however, about his death. But they imagined he was speaking about taking rest in sleep. 14 At that time, therefore, Jesus said to them outspokenly: “Laz´a·rus has died.

Death is NOT the end, however. We are promised a resurrection all the way through the Bible. Compare the following passages: Job 14:12-15; Isaiah 26:19: Daniel 12:2; John 5:28:29; Acts 24:15; Revelation 20:13; and many more.

Humans are some of the most complex creature on earth, and the most creative as well as intelligent. It would be hard to fathom that we cease to end at death. Something has to continue, something goes on. Our minds, our spirits, our souls, they can't just return to dust.

I believe that it's better to trust in something rather than hope for nothing. That THING being God, not allah, but the Trinity, God, Jesus, Holy Spirit.

If you choose to believe in this God many people believe in, then you know that it is appointed unto man but once to die. We have a choice to either do good unto others, accept Christ and flee from temptations of the devil, OR.....give in to the lust of this corrupt flesh, party it up, kick it, and "enjoy" life to the fullest. But who wants to take that risk of never acknowledging that perhaps there is a God, and perhaps heaven and hell does exist, we've all thought about it. Anyway...

Good and evil will be judged after we die. For even in this life we suffer consequences for our actions, wouldn't that principle continue in the afterlife? I have to believe so.

Let me say about soul as well as spirit. Every living being become existing because of soul. And when we live life, our mind (subtle part) become active. When we die the subtle part goes out with soul. But when we die without creating the subtle part, then the soul is liberated. Soul is the consciousness and it is the everlasting factor. And soul is not affected or connected with our birth and death. Is it true? As our physical characters are transferred to offsprings through our genes, our character also get transferred. How? Through continuous factor called soul together with subtle part or mind.

The body is like clothing that the soul wears. Death is like removing of the old dress. In other way the soul is like dry battery cell in a flashlight torch. These cells give light and life to the battery. Once they are removed the torch ceases its function.

according to philosophy of religion, god created every thing, and this universe. and god is every where, so all we see is part of god, god also created humans and put a part of it in humans known as soul. this soul is not present in lower species like plants and animals, that's why no where in no divine book , there is mentioned about judgment day for animals or plants. they will die and be a part of soil and nothing more.
according to religious philosophy when humans dies they will treated as bad or good one according to their deeds in life. one can ask why humans will punished or rewarded after death. according to religious philosophy , god has put his part in humans as soul, so when baby born it got pure soul like god. we pollute that soul during our life span by sins and by doing unwanted things, so when we died our soul becomes polluted , the more we pollute our soul the more punishment we will have in order to purify it and in order to revert it back to its origin. so if we believes on this religious philosophy then its logical that we will be punished or rewarded, so there is concept of heaven or hell, i believe that every one soul will be purified and then it will merged with parent soul ultimately.
the nature of existence of soul after death may be like, we are dreaming we would feel pain or joy. so i believe we will feel like good or bad after death. i hope this will help you.

We have a Body, and our spirit lives inside of this body we have. This body wouldn't have life if it wasn't for our spirit living in it. Therefore, once it is our appointed time to die, our physical body will return to dust, but our spirit lives on. From that point our spirit spends eternity in one of 2 place (Heaven or Hell). Where are you going to spend eternity?
