I would recommend taking your vet, so the vet can prescribe droncit. It is made by Bayer. It not only kills tapeworms, but six other types of intestinal worms.
I believe you can get it without a vet, online or whatnot, but the problem is that most of the doseages available are designed for dogs, and these doses are much, much too large and therefore dangerous for cats.

p.s. I gave my male cat the pills by wrapping them up in deli meat, and giving him a piece of meat right after the pill so he wouldn't spit it back out. My vet also cut the pills up for me.

Here's a website I found helpful for my own kitten: http://www.vetinfo.com/cworms.html

Could be a TAPE WORM. Tape worms can be several feet long and are flat, like tape. Tape Worm Facts Dogs and cats can be infested with two types of tape worms. Fleas carry the most common type, and rodents carry the less common type. Pets become infected with tapeworms after ingesting either fleas or rodents. Tape worm segments are often visible on the surface of your pet?s stool. They usually appear as short (1/2-3/4?), flat, white particles, that when first passed are mobile; or they may be passed still connected in a long, flat string. Dry segments may stick to your pet?s hair, and look similar to a grain of rice. Until recently, the only effective wormer has required a prescription. However, a drug called Praziquantel is now available without a prescription, and is 100% effective in deworming your pet of both types of tapeworms. To prevent future infestations of tapeworms be sure to follow a preventative flea control program. PINWORMS are small, usually white and shaped more like an earthworm.

There are tapeworm tabs specifically for cats available at pretty much any feed store or you can buy them online at www.drsfostersmith.com. I'd suggest buying them locally because you won't have to wait and they're generally not as expensive as online. They are made by a company called Tradewinds and come 3 tablets to a package with directions about how much to give by the weight of your cat. They work very well and you won't have to worry about the cost of a vet trip.
The bad news is they come in pill form, so you have to make your cat swallow them, which isn't necessarily fun for you or the cat. To do this you can open the cat's mouth and place the pill as far back into the throat as possible. Then hold the cat's mouth closed and blow gently on the cat's nose. For some reason wind in their face causes them to swallow. This has always been the suggested method, so if you know of a better way, by all means go for it. And good luck!

Eww gross, I know the feeling. I got a cat a while back, and he jumped on the couch, and this white thing fell out of his butt. I thought it was like the dried up plug of a hand cream, but then I saw it moving.

Anyway, bring him to your vet and your vet will give you the meds. Petsmart does, in some places, carry a de-wormer, but you should not use it on a cat. Unless you have veterinary experience, it is too easy to overdose or not dose enough. Anyway, you can probably just bring the tapeworm segment to your vet, and he'll give you the pill without having to see your cat, so you won't have to pay for a consultation, just for the de-worming pill. However, they will only do this if they have seen your cat recently enough to know how much he weighs.

Generally, cats acquire tapeworms by ingesting fleas or by eating rodents or even rabbits. One of the best solutions is to use flea preventative, which in turn prevents the tapes. You shouldn't use any OTC products on your cat, only products available through a vet is safest. So, make an appointment for your cat for a Droncit pill(s) or injection or panacur and for a flea preventative like Frontline Plus for cats or Advantage. An accurate weight must be needed for proper dosing, Good luck.

I think it is spelled Droncit, but it is only available from your veterinarian. It is a pill form that they will give your cat in office and the tape worms should be killed in a few days time.

~Are you sure they are tapeworms? They look like white rice around your animals butt. Sometimes they stick out of their butts.
I had to have my cat checked out by a vet before he would give me a pill for her. She always felt sick for a day or two from it.

They get those worms from swallowing fleas, so I would recommend getting "Advantage." It's this stuff you put on the back of your cat's neck once a month and it kills the fleas without hurting the animal.

Don't buy anything over the counter for fleas besides flea shampoo. They can kill your cat or make them sick.
It's a pretty big pill and you have to be able to get your cat to swallow it.
Good luck~
