God said, "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5). Thus, we know that when the separation happens, God isn't the one who left. Thus, the other left God.
And, yes, that separation is forever, if that is indeed the choice the human makes. God is a gentleman; He doesn't force Himself on anyone. However, God is also the king of kings and will rule on this earth. That said, where else would the rebellious go? The "forever" part is merely God giving people what they want.

No one is ever deserted.Like a radio, you have to tune in to hear the message. Some people have very poor radios and get too much interference from Bible static and Preacher hiss. You need to go digital to get a clear message. Latest digital radios are free to all humanity. Just settle your life into steady routine, eat and drink moderately, don't let things bother you, sit comfortably in a quiet room, allow your thoughts to drop away, try not to think, try not to think of not thinking (this takes time to master) Slowly the silence will emerge, that "which is" will become apparent, Enjoy!

The Creator is our parent and if we allow it, our friend. Like any loving parent, the Creator will not turn away from a child unless that child has gone beyond the point of redemption. Done something truly evil like starting a war, genocide etc.
Even then penitence in the heart would probably lead to forgiveness. Not penitence of the lips I think though. I doubt that the Creator makes much distinction between people by race, nationality, religion etc.

God never changes, man does all that flaky back and forth, sometimes up sometimes down stuff. You have to just make up your mind come hell or high water no hound from hell will cause you to waver. And after you've done all to stand you will find that there is really no reason to turn your back on Him. That all that came against you He is more than able to deliver you from. If anything, we should run to Him for He is a father who loves His children.

The Christian answer is going to be:
"God will always forgive and never desert anyone."

The answer for the rest of the world is:

Something that isn't there can't desert anyone.

God does not desert anyone. However, He will seperate you from his presence of judgement day if you do not believe in Jesus Christ. That seperation from God is called Hell...and you don't want to be completely seperated from God..
