I was told that while growing up too...In fact, people called me "spoon" because I looked like a stick with a head. I ate a ridiculous amount of food and was told I might actually have a tape worm (like 2 foot long sandwiches in an hour). I was 5'8'' and weighed 107 pounds...super skinny. I couldn't gain weight no matter what I ate.
Now I am going on 30 and I want to lose five pounds. I never thought it would catch up to me, but it has. I still eat pretty much what I want, but I am not skinny.
What I realize now, looking back, is that my friends were envious of me. (obviously not because I was so skinny, but because I could indulge in whatever I wanted to and they couldn't)
My advice: enjoy it! Eat away and enjoy having an overactive metabolism. It will change eventually...and you will remember these words, trust me!

Serious answer. Slow your metabolism down. This can be done easily, by eating less times in a day, and larger caloric meals. Go to those weightlifter nutrition stores, and look for those shakes with a retarded amount of calories. Throw that into the mix of your diet. Sumo wrestlers can maintain high amounts of weight and bodyfat by limiting their meal to one time a day on a 5000 calorie soup. Yet they're still as flexible and strong as a gymnast. Also, if you build some muscles, they'll tack on more weight than fat. But you don't wanna be TOO buff, do you?

High metabolism means that the idle of your body machine is set rather high. (if I may use a mechanical analogy) About 100 million Americans wish they had your problem. If anybody teases you say "You are just jealous". Seriously if you are otherwise healthy, there is very little you need to really worry about. You might check thyroid function, which you do by taking your temperature first thing in the morning (like before you get up from bed,) and record it. If that is normal, the first thing to do is try to eat better food.--more fruits and vegetables, and less junk. The next thing to do is to get a little more heavy exercise. Realize that with puberty (which will be coming along really soon) your body will be making a bit more fat, and increasing the fat layer under the skin which will solve your problem. As Paladin said, "your only problem is youth, which is the one thing time will cure"

Not sure. I have the same thing. I've been wanting to gain weight. No matter how much I eat, I gain nothin. I am just a little to skinny and I wish there was something to slow metabolism down for a little bit or something.
Good luck, though

look at your parents and that may be you. I have seen some skinny 12 year olds and then the momma looked like Shamu on two legs. High metabolism just means you burn your food calories faster than the normal person. That is why some people eat all day and don't gain weight, and somebody like me that just passes by Burger King and smells, and gain 5 pounds.

Your metabolism is how many calories you burn each day. It is regulated by your thyroid. The best way to gain weight is to eat eat and eat. A nurse friend of mine suggested eating greasy McDonald's hamburgers right before going to bed. But there are other ways. Just make sure you eat healthy food though and not only junk. Most doctors have medicine to help regulate high metabolism though. See a doctor and get his or her advice.

Kathee, you are only 12. Many children of your age are very thin, but they put on weight automatically as they grow older. This is because children of your age have a very high metabolic rate and burn calories fast. So,you should not try to put on weight, since it will be difficult to lose this fat later. More information could be found at http://www.toloseweight.org/gainweight.html

Lol gain weight by eating but don't go at it straight on. You have to find the balance. Ask parents/caregivers for help on gaining more weight. "Metabolism (from Greek μεταβολισμός "metabolismos") is the biochemical modification of chemical compounds in living organisms and cells. It is through the process of metabolism that organisms process nutrients into the biochemical tools and structures they need to maintain a living state."
Good luck!

If you have a high metabolism it means that you burn calories/fat better/faster than most people. Its very hard for you to gain weight because of your metabolism. I would recommend eating high fat, high sugar foods to help you gain weight. Also try eating lots of carbs & some fast foods. This should help you gain weight.

Metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories, some people burn at lot of calories in less time that it takes for others to burn calories without even doing activities such as exercising, which is probably your case....your still young so you need to give your body time to mature don't worry about how skinny you are as long as you are healthy, don't try to eat junk food or anything to that nature because the best thing for you to do is to eat healthy, you're still growing girl
