Parts of my gum are swollen and my tongue feels like it's been burnt, it feels like it wants to come up with ulcers but never get there. I've completely lost my appetite and my throat feels swollen like somethings blocking it or strangling me.
I just don't know whether to bother the doctor or let it pass on its own as I know its caused by this flu virus I have.
What would you guys do?

You may have a secondary infection like strep or tonsillitis. There are other infections that can also cause similar symptoms as well as conditions/diseases. The flu as well as your other problems could be symptoms of a much bigger problem. It is always best to seek a Dr.'s advise.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. Get some ice to suck but you should see a doctor as you may even have tonsillitis which can turn to quinsys.You will choke. You sound as though you need antibiotics,normal flu symptoms are aching muscles,headaches and a sore throat, gums are not usually affected. Get some help

Loss of appetite is a symptom of flu. But the others... def. not sure, call NHS 24 and have a chat with a nurse, no harm in that. So long as your mind is put to rest and you feel happy. Hope you are feeling better soon, I am sick with the flu too and it's been 5 days of hell!

I would call the doctor. You aren't bothering him, it's his job. He will know what is wrong in a few minutes. Go and see him so he exactly knows what is wrong. Those are unusual symptoms...that is like strep throat. Go see the doctor, I think those symptoms are really bad just for the flu.

Go to the doctor! It sounds to me like you've compounded your self-diagnosed flu with a nice, healthy case of strep throat. STREP THROAT IS NOT SOMETHING TO IGNORE. Especially when your immune system is compromised, as yours currently is.
You have two very dangerous ailments. Get your butt to a doctor immediately.

What you have may well be a mutation of the flu bug, but it would be wise to check it out with a doctor to be sure. Get well soon;

I suggest you go see a doctor, the throat symptoms alone would be enough to go see him. If you notice any white spots on the back of your throat, feel that pushing your chin forward eases the throat symptoms then deffinately go.

You should call your doctors office and tell them what your concerns are. More than likely, they will tell you that it is best that you come in for an appointment...so all in all, I would suggest going to your doctors, it's better to be safe than sorry!
Hope this helps and you feel better soon!

You may have strep throat as well as the flu. Even though they cannot treat the flu, they can treat strep throat with antibiotics. Please see your doctor and ask for a strep culture to be sure.

Yes see a D.R. right away .It sounds like strep throat and is dangerous. If not treated you could end up with rheumatic fever which affects your heart and could cause permanent damage.
