My hands get so dry in the winter. The best that I have found over the counter that works wonders for me is OLAY Quench therapy. Aveeno also has a nice hand cream and its oil as well as virtually fragrance free. Olay's quenches my hands very well, but I can do without the fragrance. I also like Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion for the body. It soaks into dry skin like a sponge. I've also gotten silicone gloves from my dermatologist with prescription hand lotion, but you need to see a dermatologiest for something more potent than sold in a grocery store.

Last winter (2006 I mean) my hands were dry and cracked and stung a lot. I found some hand cream in a bag I hardly ever use. In about two days, my skin was really smooth. My hands got dry all of a sudden again and I put some on and it was fine after a while. Just make sure to put on hand cream after you wash your hands and in the morning and night. Also put it on your knees, elbows, and heels because those are generally rough areas on your body.
The kind I use is called: Vaseline Intensive Care - Healthy Hand & Nail.
It says it's supposed to make your nails stronger, but I already have strong nails and couldn't tell.

Actually, if you have some vegetable shortening in the cabinet, try some of that. It's oily and messy, but it works quite well. You may want to see a dermatologist, you may have psoriasis. They can prescribe special lotions that can cure it.

you could try Eucerin. When my brother was a dishwasher in high school, his hands were so dry from the bleach they would crack and bleed. His doc told him this is the was to go. He put it on thick at night and slept with CLEAN socks on his hands. it really works!

"CornHusker's"
I used this back in the days when I was a window washer. It was very effective.
You might consider seeing a dermatologist. You could have a condition other than just dry skin that they can help you with.
