I often do things over and over withouth thinking about it, hoping it will turn out different.

Not at all. I heard an old saying, that "If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.".

This means, if you do the same thing each time in the same circumstances, you'll get the same result. Why would things turn out differently.

For example, if you've always got a hangover after drinking 10 beers, why do you expect something different to happen (not get a hangover) the next time you drink 10 beers?

Just doing things over and over again in hopes of the results being different can not determine if you are clinically inane. Maybe a case of OCDC but clincailly insane I doubt

I believe Samuel Clemens once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Coincidentally, that is also the definition of stupid. So if you can't stop doing whatever it is that you're doing, you are either insane or a moron.
