First question? Does depression run in your family? If so, chances are you are depressed. Depression runs in my family and I have taken antidepressants. They worked for me. . . I don't take them anymore though because I just can't afford it. However, in the past year I have been exercising faithfully every week 3x a week and that is a huge depression lifter. I exercise because I just feel so Much better mentally. And now I am in pretty good physical shape. Even started martial arts . . .

Like the other answerer, depression runs in my family as well. I have taken antidepressants and they've made a huge difference in my life!! If I were you, I'd consult a psychiatrist or psychologist. The psychologist can ask questions designed to determine if you are suffering from depression and if you are, the psychiatrist would be able to give you a prescription. Don't hesitate to seek help. When you say "doctors," keep trying to find one who'll take your feelings seriously.

What other things do you feel?
Be more specific.
Yes, I have taken antidepressants, such as Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, and Wellbutrin.
My depressions that I have gone through are generally a FLAT feeling(edited: by flat I mean no laughing, smiling, or crying) , and I get really withdrawn and quiet. I can sleep for 15 hours, and still be sleepy. I have also had an "edgy" depression that is like anxiety ( shakiness), doom, and desperation where you CAN'T sleep. The meds helped lift me from the "dead" and WAKE me up, and when I get the edgy kind of depression, they have helped control the desperation and anxiety.

Ask your Dr. for a referral. Mental Health professionals are experienced in emotional disorders, and a psychiatrist will evaluate you to determine if therapy or medications or both are indicated to resolve your problem. Good Luck

depression has many symptoms, tired, irratible, insomnia, weight gain, weight loss, and anti-depressants do work, but you have to get the right one and the right dosage. It may take trying a few to get it right. But if it's the right one, it makes all the difference
