About 2 years ago I met a American girl on a beach in Thailand. We hit it off and kissed for a while. Before we started kissing she stopped me and told me she was Jewish and asked if I was ok with that? To this day I have no idea what she was going on about. Never saw or heard from her again so I didn't get the chance to ask her. Why would I care if she is jewish or not. Is there something I should know?

If you had become involved for more than that one day, you would have found that she would refuse any intimate contact (including kissing/hand holding) during "her time" of the month. An ancient law of Judaism requires this separation and today even Jewish women who otherwise don't practice, still observe this one prohibition.
It could have caused you confusion and perhaps anger to have her push you away at those times, if the relationship had developed. She was probably thinking about this prohibition when she asked that question.

Sounds to me that she was either ashamed of her Jewishness, or afraid of your reaction about her being Jewish.

It's a good thing that it doesn't mean anything to you, but I guess that not all people like you if there are still Jewish boys and girls who are ashamed of their culture and afraid of other people's attitude toward Jews.

Sounds like she's ashamed of being jewish or that her folks would be against a non jewish person.

I don't think you should care about it. I guess it's about her religion or something, but the point is that it doesn't really matter who person is as long as you guys are having a good time.

some people prefer a certain religion. Maybe she dated a guy told him she was jewish and he left her.
