Most of these spaces are expensive, but you can get some great ideas here - different venues from museums to estates to boats to lodges to private clubs to gardens to mansions to party spaces. Fascinating read.
I went to a really lovely wedding aboard a barge at the Waterfront Museum in Redhook, Brooklyn (bottom of page 1)

It really depends on your budget - you can go anywhere from Tavern on the Green to small local restaurants!
I've also been to nice wedding receptions in raw spaces (like the loft on West 33rd Street) that used caterers.
Once of the nicest wedding receptions I've been to was at the Coney Island Aquarium! It was a beautiful setting and they did a really great job with the food, etc.

I actually got married at Harbour Lights at South Street Seaport. We only have about 10-12 guests, so we sat outside (in the springtime) with a magnificent view of the Brooklyn Bridge in the evening. We just ordered off the regular dinner menu, but I know that they do group dining menus. Otherwise, i would recommend going on opentable.com - there's a way to search for group dining and event planning.
