I used to have a cat that growled when the doorbell rang or whenever she heard movement outside the house like someone on the front porch and thought it was really weird, LOL, but unique. She passed away last year at the age of ten and I miss her. Her son doesn't growl, but he acts more like a dog than a cat whenever people come to the door, going to see instead of running and hiding like his dorky brother, LOL!

We've had cats that would do that. We also had cats that would growl when the trash truck pulled up. I thik it's part out of fear, and partly a territorial thing. They're cats...who knows!

no i have had loads of cats and never known of it........ It sounds to me like your cat is very territorial and unique too at least if you don't hear the door you will hear the cat lol
