How much does it cost to get budgie's beak cut. My budgie's beak is overgrown and she peels through my skin when she bites me.

Are you sure it is overgrown? Budgies are in the parrot or hookbill family. They have a "hooked" bill. The upper mandible extends down a little past the lower mandible. Little birds have sharp beaks and it hurts when they bite. That is just the way it is. You should not trim it just because it hurts when it bites.

Now, sometimes birds do get truly overgrown beaks. In budgies this is often due to a mite (parasite). Sometimes birds' beaks overgrow because they have a serious disease affecting metabolism like fatty liver disease. Sometimes beaks overgrow because the bird does not have anything (toys, especially wooden toys) in its cage to wear its beak down.

In any case, do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, allow anyone other than an avian vet to trim your bird's beak. Bird's beaks have nerve endings, blood vessels, and sinuses in them and you could cause serious pain and/or infection. In serious cases, the bird could be in so much pain after a clumsy beak trim that it cannot eat properly. Frankly, if you really think his beak is overgrown you should have an avian vet assess the bird and he/she can trim the beak if needed. Make sure the vet has a lot of experience treating pet birds. Not all vets can treat pet birds!

I am not sure of the cost in your area. But an office visit with nail trim for my lovebirds runs me about $80. Sorry, but you cannot just take a bird to anyone for a beak trim - ONLY a vet.

I'm not sure what it costs alone, but I took my budgie to the vet and she got her toenails and wings clipped and her beak trimmed and it was about $80. I'd guess to just get the beak trimmed it would be like 25 or 30 dollars.

Instead of sitting and examining, listen to books on tape as you walk, clean, or garden.

Ask for the paper to be left at the conclusion of your driveway instead of from your front door.
