I'm really into photography lately, but I'm running out of ideas on what to photograph. Anyone have any ideas? I'm open to anything that's around the house, outside, etc. Please don't suggest places to go or things like that because I can't drive yet (too young).

So, any ideas on what to photograph..and maybe cool editing effects to do on them? I love HDR and black and white. What would be cool to photograph in black in white? Thanks for all your suggestions.

a couple of ideas that help me out on occasion.

crumple up a piece of paper and photograph it from different angles and lighting arrangements.

go out in your backyard, toss a rock and photograph everything within 10 feet of that rock

go to the park (walk or ride your bike).

take some jewlery (books, shoes, knives and forks, toys - if you have young children around) and photo that

Good luck with your inspiration - this time of year is hard for me as well - I love photographing the outdoors.

The wonderful thing about photography is that it allows you to explore different possibilities. You can photograph the normal things you see everyday and present it differently to the point that nobody else has ever thought of capturing it in that manner. Find the manual functions of your camera and experiment with them... try shooting under different exposures and then try capturing your subject from different angles. Think of themes and look for symbols that can express those concepts. Sometimes, the best photographs are captured when you least expect it... always keep your cam ready so you can easily shoot your subject immediately. Shoot all your photographs in color and just convert your photos to black and white through some photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop. At least this way, you have both the colored and black and white versions of your photos.

By the way, in photography, it is important to know what you want to photograph... that way, you will truly appreciate your output because it is what you planned to achieve. Good luck!

I can't really tell you what to take a picture of, that would be stolen inspiration. If you really enjoy taking pictures, you might consider taking a class on photography. In a class not only will you learn more helpful tips, but they may even have sculptures, figures, or other things for you photograph and keep you busy.

Tip: Try taking photos form different angles, such as lieing down and shooting form the bottom to top. If you're outside think perspective. What do ants see from their tiny eyes. What might be a good bird's view?

Shoot the same things that you have been shooting. BUT, do it from just a little bit different angle, or distance, lighting etc. You will be amazed how much just 1" will change a shot. How about getting a picture of a rose opening. A fun thing to do is get one of those throwaway cameras. There are usually 26 exposures in them. Now, pick a day of a week that you can shoot the same thing at the same time. ie. A tree in the front yard, plants next to the house, etc. Now, every week, or every 2 weeks, you pick, take a picture of it. Always from the same spot at the same time of day. Don't change a thing in the back ground. When you have finished with the roll, and get your photos back, you will be amazed at how different each shot is. It's a corny idea, but it also teaches you how lighting can change a photo. Have fun with it.

Check out this site. It's free download and you can edit in various ways all pics. Someone suggested it to me and it is great.

Ideas......If you have a fast enough camera you can stop action. i saw once where someone took a photo of a drop of water as it hit a surface and it looked like a crown. ANY action shot that can be stopped might be neat.
Birds in flight, butterflies in motion, etc.
With this picasa site , you can even make slideshows and movies for free. It would take some time, but if you have a flower in a pot or something like that, take a shot every day and when it is fully bloomed just think of the slideshow you could create from start to finish. you can also get rid of red eye, change colors, borders, all kinds of special effects here. You will like it I'm sure. Have Fun and Good Luck. You may want to make this your career if you get good enough and love doing this. Plenty of different opportunities with photography these days with or without computers.

i'm doing nite-time photos, longer exposures, and it's kind of cold, but industrial places at nite are awsome, the lights and steam and smoke, looks like the wizard of oz in a different dimention. and you don't have to do alot of editing, just some cropping and some sharpening up sometimes. i also like to do wildlife. Sunsets and sunrises especially around water (the river her with a sunrise is pretty awsome, too). children at play is always good, there is an artist/photographer here who does nothing but cows...another does incredible flowers (i can spot her work a block away, beautiful work)
i've been working on industry and industry at nite, and music and musicians and the musical instruments and playing with the light and settings, some shots are priceless and others are worthless (there's a fine line there...)
hope this helps.

Just go for a walk around your neighborhood and you should find abundant inspiration. Think texture, repeated patterns, how the light is shining and creating interesting shadows on an object. Get as close as you can to a flower and the droplets of water forming on it! We are surrounded by beauty and there is beauty in the mundane also.

You can take pictures of children or people...Although if you photograph children, you need a lot of patience!
