Should I continue to exercise them while they are sore or wait until the soreness is gone completely. I have heard that you can damage them by doing too many. But I dont want to stop my exercise routine. For some one who has just started working out again, does anyone know a good amount to start with and still get results?

wait until your abs or no longer sore or you can overtrain your abdominal muscles. you may want to try some cardio or lift weights with your upper/lower body in the meantime to increase your overall fitness.

Don;t exercise if you're sore. Pain is the body's way of saying enough. Wait 2 days and try 10. If you're not sore build up with an extra five each day until you have the level you want. #Crunches are better for abs than situps which can stress your back

Over training is not a big concern with abs because they are relatively small muscles and recover quickly. At the same time, all actual muscle building takes place during recovery and mainly while you are sleeping. Which means that you must always allow adequate recovery time to see any results from your efforts. Also, a small bottle of fat free chocolate milk immediately after you are done working out will speed up your recovery. Or any other shake/beverage with a mixture of carbs and protein.

Sounds like you shocked your muscles. You have to wait a little, you can not do it right now anyway, before you do the same exercise again. To know if you're ready, give a it a try once in a while. It wouldn't be so painful, you can tolerate the pain, when you're ready.

If you're trying to get back into routine, you have to give your body enough time to adjust. It's not because you can do it, you go go go. You have to be considerate on your idle muscles. It's a common sense to start slow the first time. Don't get bored. You'll be back in shape in no time.

If you'e just started working out, 50 might be a little much. Try starting off with 10-15 to get your body used to the motion. Also do other excercises like pushups, squat-thrusts, etc.
Another great way to excercise is by doing 'stairs'. Just jog up and down your stairs for five minute incriments. Take a brief rest period, and then do a couple more five minutes periods.

Give them a couple of days. Soreness means you've done more than you usually do and your body needs time to fix that. You don't have to wait until you are absolutely, completely 100% not sore, but give your muscles 1 or 2 days to recover.

Wait til the soreness is gone for the most part...muscles grow when they are at rest believe it or not...if you have never done that many situps before at one time for a while, your muscles aren't used to it and that is why you're sore.

Most important thing for any type of muscle building or exercises is to drink plenty of water!

If they are sore I would wait another day at least before continuing your exercise regime. You can do damage to your muscles by not giving them the proper recovery time.

give yourself a break for a day then try to do the sit-ups in repitions the day you continue. maybe 5 reps of 10. take a break in between reps and that way you won't be sore but you will still get your 50 sit-ups in. i suggest you start with 35 though.

Get you some icy hot or take some muscle relaxers wait a few days then start back. Your doing good by starting with 50 then gradually do more.

Stretch --- Then do 1/2 of what you did (25 sit-up's) today --- tomorrow stretch and do 3/4 of what you did (37 sit - up's) --- you'll actually love doing them if you carefully work them out.

What ever you do ... don't give up ... at least do 5 today ... if you stop completely, you'll never be able to work through the pain ... OF COURSE --- if it's unhealthy pain, stop and see a doctor.
