from what I understand with vegetables at least "green" vegetables it doesn't matter because they are sources of vitamins and nutrition and it actually takes your body more calories to break down and digest the food to get the nutrients out than the vegetables actually provide. Since people can live off of vegetables that proves that it's not the amount of calories you get from a food it's the amount of nutrition the food provides which is most important. On a side note I would say that romain lettuce has more nutritional value, iceburg lettuce is mostly water

Romaine lettuce has more calories.

Romaine lettuce, 1/2 leaf, 4 calories
Iceberg lettuce, 1 leaf, 3 calories

oops... let me redo that... they are essentially the same
For iceberg you have to go by the weight... 8grams is 1calorie

romaine... 2 calories per leaf or 5 grams is a calorie.

BUT, the romaine has more nutrients while the iceberg is mainly just water.

The reason weight watchers and others say it is a "zero calorie" food is because it takes more calories to eat it than it contains. But, as a food, it still contains calories technically.

The calories in something like lettuce is no big deal the thing to look at is nutritional value and romaine has more nutritional value than iceburg which has next to none.

I don't think you should bother counting calories in lettuce. It's going to be so low, it won't matter. Choose the one that tastes best.
