A well balanced diet and exercise it probably your best bet. Walking is a good exercise that is low impact and pretty much anyone can do. It can help tone those thighs and flatten that tummy.

The only way to really change your shape is to exercise. If you want to flatten your stomach, do pilates and cruches.

The best foods for you to eat are:

Orange veggies (carrots, sweet potoatoes, etc.) & spinach
High fiberous/low sugar fruits (blueberries, raspberries, apples)
Lean Protein (chicken breast, turkey breast, sirloin, tuna, salmon, beans, tofu, soy)
All whole grains.

Contrary to popular belief, dairy is not an essential requirement. Calcium is, though, so make sure you are getting plenty of calcium for vegetable sources.

Here's a list of things to eat that will aid your weight loss efforts:

-- Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Green vegetables (spinach and broccoli top the list)
-- Lowfat dairy products, any kind
-- Eggs (high in protein and monounsaturated "good" fat)
-- Olive oil (also high in monounsaturated "good" fat)
-- Lean meats (especially fish and poultry)
-- Peanut butter (must be sugar free and trans fat free)
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruit (anything that ends in "berry" is best)
-- Tea (any kind, but home-brewed with nothing added)

Here is a list of things to avoid:

-- Fast food
-- Junk food
-- Fried food
-- Saturated fat (keep to a minimum)
-- Trans fat (partially or fully hydrogenated oils)
-- High fructose corn syrup (it's in most processed foods/drinks)
-- Processed "white" flour and sugar

Here are some other tips:

-- Eat breakfast every day within an hour of waking up. People who don't are 450% more likely to be overweight

-- Eat six small meals or snacks per day instead of three square meals a day. Eating less at one sitting but eating more often during the day keeps your metabolism running high.

-- Each meal or snack should have some protein, some good carbs, and some good fat in it (yes, there IS such a thing as good fat). Best protein sources are eggs, fish, and poultry. Best carb sources are whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables. Best sources of good fat are avocadoes, eggs, fish, fish oil, flax seed, flax seed oil, nuts, olive oil, and no-sugar-added trans-fat-free peanut butter.

-- Be sure to eat plenty of fiber (aim for 25g a day or more) and plenty of protein (aim for 1g of protein per pound of body weight per day) and drink plenty of water (at least half a gallon a day).

-- For half a day once a week, chuck the rules and eat/drink whatever you want. Just don't gorge yourself.

-- Do some type of exercise every day, even if it's just a ten-minute walk. You can walk as much as you want, but don't do too much cardio (if you do more than 40 minutes at one time you risk burning muscle instead of fat). Ab exercises won't really help you burn the flab, but they will help tone up your ab muscles and make your midsection appear smaller, so make ab exercises part of your routine.

-- If you want a list of meals, invest in a copy of "The Abs Diet" or "The Abs Diet Get Fit/Stay Fit Plan." Both books have a bunch of easy recipes that don't involve lots of production time or exotic ingredients you can't find at a supermarket.

Good luck!

you can't spot lose.

i like eating things like popcorn cakes, fresh fruit (you already said it), shrimp cocktail (great low calorie meal), salads with a variety of veggies and exotic lettuce, cucumbers for snacks, wheat thins are a great snack, too, especially with cheese.
