Whether or not you know it, you are talking when you are singing with your diaphram as well.

When you take a breath, your diaphram pushes down to make room for your lungs to expand. The muscles in your back and abdomen help maintain breath control. The best way to practice speaking and/or singing with proper breath support is to take a big, low breath without raising your shoulders; your lower back, abdomen, and sides should expand. Slowly start to release your breath on a neutral sound - "Sssssss" while maintaining the firmness in your lower body. Start by doing this over 5 beats and increase it by several beats as you get better. As your air flows out, you should feel a gradual release of the pressure on your back and belly. Now, try the same technique while speaking a phrase. Eventually, you'll be able to speak and/or sing for longer phrases without having to take a breath. This technique will also help with vocal production and being heard over a crowd. It does take practice, though.
