Why?
Relax; It's not just YOUR mother in law; the vast majority of mothers in law are like that.
They just can't let go. If they could sleep right in the same bed as their son or daughter and their partner, they would.
Hope that makes you feel better to know that it's nothing personal. It's a mother in law thing!xx

for some reason, this happens to be the persona of all mother in laws. They have this reall nasty attitude towards their child's spouse/partner. I could guess that maybe they can't accept that their baby has grown up and can't imagine them with anyone else. They accuse the partner for taking these things away from them, and they develop this jealous negative way about them. It will fade away with time. As long as you know that you are a good, clean person, with a good heart, and you love your partner, treating them with respect, and all that other good stuff, you are good to go.

Well the, you took her little princess away and you don't bathe her with millions. She wanted someone much better for her daughter. She cannot clean her house anymore because you took her away, and who would laugh at her jokes now that she is with you? who will hear her complaints and listen to her comments. Well, you stepped in as a wedge between them, so now she despises you. Don't get me wrong, you are probably a very nice guy, but no one is good enough for her princess. Just be nice to her and continue to live your life with your new bride. As long as your mother in law does not pay your bills she should be out of the picture, other that visiting and spending some time with you guys. They usually try to rearrange your furniture, tell you what to eat and when to do so, what to buy and what not to buy-and the list goes on and on. That is what a mother in law does on the average, it does not change much with time. My own wife acts something like that with our 3 children and their mates, but I do my best to keep her in check and out of the picture. Mother in laws cause many of today's divorces, so just ignore her and I hope your wife understands what is happening....KECK

Some people are just born that way. They don't have to be mothers-in-law to make your life Hell. Just like any other family member you don't get to pick who will be yours but because you aren't one of her children she can be as nasty as she wants to be. Unless she cares about her daughter's feelings. IF she's nasty to you in front of your wife, speak to your wife about how her mom acts. If she waits until you wife isn't around, make sure your wife IS always around when you have to do something together.

Oi you lot! I'm a mother-in-law and I'm not nasty (well, only a little bit!).

Seriously though, it is hard when your child loves someone more than they love you. It takes a little while to get used to the idea.

She'll probably cheer up eventually. (Mine did, and she was a right old witch to start off with.)

This is a qualification that a Mother in Law has to have. If she was nice to you she would probably be a mutant from another world. Don't worry about it, you will almost certainly out live her!

Because she feels as though you have stolen her child. Its ridiculous but it is 100% true. If she is a ***** now she will just keep finding excuses to be that way towards you.
