I think the entire funeral ceremony gives a sense of closure to the living and the adornments (makeup and so forth) eases the pain. It makes one feel as though you are just saying goodbye rather than burying you husband.

we don't my mum and dad say cheap funeral it's just the shell gone there spirit lives on so we don't
