In my prime I was 18, 6'4", 150 my senior year. I could run 10 miles no sweat and could bench 185.
I am now almost 30, 6'4.5", 210. I have a beer gut and tire around my waist. I honestly think I am about 28% body fat, which is pretty gross for a tall skinny guy.
Do you think with dieting and weight training I could ultimately be in shape to fight at 170?

Irishman, if you are at 28% BF @ your body weight that means you are carrying 58.8lbs of fat. If you lost 40 of those pounds without changing up your musclemass at all you'd have 18.8lbs of fat which at 170lbs would be a BF% of 11%. This is a good goal and realisitic if you stay dedicated. You will probably gain some muscle mass while exercising and dieting to reach your goal weight, but if you get down around 180 as your "walking weight", you could easily cut weight to reach a fighting weight of 170. Good luck, train hard, and be safe.

yes you can, I have trained guys that think they are heavyweights, after training awhile they feel they can make 205, 9 times outa 10 they are middleweights, 185, remember they only need to be 185 for the weigh in, cutting weight is an art in and of itself, you need to find out an effective weight cutting thats works for you as an indivisual, you shud shoot for 205, then 185, if you are strong at 185 try for 170 and see how you feel, you mite be better at 185, try and see what works, where you are strongest is what matters here not numbers

If you have the desire and the drive, you can do anything you want to do. As for weight, you'll want to aim for the weight that will put you in whichever MMA classification you wish to be in (welterweight, light heavyweight, etc.). You'll want to balance weight training with cardio, and in your diet you'll want to eat a lot of proteins and have some sugar immediately after any workout.

You can fight at that weight or you can cut down. 170 is not beyond reach. Joe Riggs used to fight at over 300 lbs before he cut down to the welterweight level.
