Get him neutered, and that will help, if he hasn't been already.

However, just so you know, though many cats have no problem with always being indoors, it IS against their nature. Perhaps you should consider allowing him to be an indoor/outdoor cat.

I would definitely get him neutered. A neutered male is usually very sweet and laid back. If you've already done this, he may be trying to let you know he's not feeling well, or is hurting somewhere. You may want to take him to your vet to have him checked out. The vet might also have some more knowledgeable advice to help you out.

The way he is acting may be because of a change in his diet and/or sleeping patern.
Engage in a series of experiments and change some things with him if need be.

He's probably sick then. Animals will sometimes turn mean if they are sick. If he has always done this then it will take a lot of time and attention to change him. Animals are only as good as their owners IMO.

Play with your kitty with toys.. a ball something soft and bouncy.. something maybe your kitty can chase.. maybe get another kitty if you can afoord it.. (It can be costly with more then 1 kitty).. Your kitty can't talk english.. but your kitty is telling you I want to play.. He or she dosen't mean to hurt you.. Your kitty LOVES YOU..
