"Practice random acts of kindness" - this is a great thought and one which is also a great way to make a difference in other people's lives.
- Donate - this means time, energy, action and ideas as well as objects.
-Volunteer - pretty much the same as 'donate'.
-Recycle and buy earth-friendly objects for yourself, your home, as gifts
-Teach others...this is part of volunteering, but helping to, say, teach English as a second language, or teaching children to read are great ways to make a huge difference in people lives.
Learn American Sign Language and become a translator...there is a desperate need for ASL translators in the government, law, business and even arts communties.
Become a Big Brother or Big Sister
Become a Companion to a disabled or older person - sometimes you can be paid for this, so it is not 'volunteering'
Join the Peace Corp or other agencies that foster good will and help to the disadvantaged around the world.
There are numerous things one person can do to make a difference...
A Difference globally? Probably not, unless you end up being a scientist or someone with global influence. A Difference locally? Certainly, from neighbors doing things for neighbors, to teachers and even polititians from a local to national level, we can ALL "make a difference". If we all act together we CAN help change the world

one person can make a difference even if it doesn't involve the whole community. you can help your friends with problems, you can become a pen pal and help others understand life a little more, you can make a website or blog informing people about drugs and weapons, you can also instead of just giving homeless people money give them a care package show the world isn't as cold as they think it is

Advocating.

Beyond just donating money and time, are you an advocate for the cause? Spread the word - inspire others to act.

The most important thing in bringing about change in the world is not letting the world change you as an individual... YOU CAN make a difference with your own unique talents and gifts.

Offering a kind word to someone, being there for someone when they are down in the dumps. A litttle can go a long way.
