Mirrors open up a room and make it look bigger. You can buy a nice decorative mirror. You can find interesting paintings/photographs at most craft stores like Michael's, and they can even frame them for you.
When I still lived with my parents I had a section of my room for sitting and reading, one for sleeping, one for studying. I painted my walls a good color that made my room look bigger (darker colors usually make a small room seem smaller). I then put two curtain rods over the head and the foot of my bed and draped white tulle (the stuff wedding veils are made from) over my bed. My room had a lot of black and white photography in it, with splashes of color every where. Just give your room your personality and you'll love it! What do you like best? Incorporate it in your design! Do your own thing! :)

Go to lowes or home depo and ask the guy in the wall paper section for murals. I bought one for $75 and it is a photograph of the woods with flowers and stuff and it covers the whole wall. It was easy to put up and the wife loves it. They have a bunch of different types too so you can get inspired by looking at the books.

My cousins have a room with this topic. they chanced on those (i'm no longer actual particular what it grew to become into. i think it grew to become right into a style of blankey, or carpet or some thing) that they placed adhesive on and nailed all of it around their partitions. Then, my uncle shrink off some long branches from their timber outdoors and someway he controlled to place them on the partitions, so as that they caught out at random places. As for wall upload-ons, there have been diverse eco-friendly photos, plant life, and wood beds, dressers, etc. Then, with a number of their monkey plushies, they draped it over the branches. It grew to become into incredibly neat.

I would go with what u like. go with something that u enjoy. Lots of theme rooms go out of style very quickly, and are expensive to create. Myself I have a Victorian/Goth living room. It works great with my old house and my style.

what's really hot right now, and also totally classic, is a black and white theme with lots of patterns, and don't forget to add one "interest" color in there (yellow, red, turquoise, etc.) for variety.
