A Scottie is a short legged terrier, A Schnauzer is a long legged terrier.
Scotties are black, short legs, long carrot shaped tails, longer noses, and the way they are groomed is a little different....they have a longer skirt and their ears are shave all except for tufts of hair in the bottom insides of the ears.
Schnauzers can come in black, salt and pepper, black and silver, white, and Ive seen a few other "non standard colors" They have longer legs, usually a docked tail, groomed with a very short skirt and their ears are shaved and trimmed clean (no hair sticking out)
I really dont have a preference..I like both breeds.

Go to the bookstore or Pet-co and look there are several distinct diferences.A Schnauzer's hair is very course and the head is boxy,it is hard to explain .They are both beautiful dogs and have similar personalities. Most scotish Terriers are brown and black that turns silver with age. Some schnauzer can be solid white ,but their are some with terrier colors.Get you a book or look them up on puppyfind.comThere you can see the differences for sure.Good Luck!!!!

Scottish Terrier is always considerably shorter legged.
They come in black, black with a small amount of gray intermixed, and very rarely in what is called wheaten, a dark cream color. Not white, that is a West Highland Terrier, which is very similar to a Scottie, but different breed.
Schnauzers are taller, longer legs, come in many shades of gray that is mostly a silvery look. I am not aware of all of their colors.
I vastly prefer my Scotties. This breed has a big dog attitude in a sturdy compact body. They are prodigious hunters! So no rodents at my house. Since I have two of similar ages they are like frick and frack, always doing something funny and amusing.
They are strong willed, intelligent, dominant types so good dog handling skills are necessary to properly raise and train a Scottie.
The Schnauzer is more of a people companion dog than a Scott.
The Scott is his own man or woman, very loyal to their owner but not lovely dovey to all who approach. If they are raised with kids they are good with them. If not, then they are alarmed by children getting in their face and will snap.
Many people who have Scotties have two, even Mr. President.
They are extremely active dogs and will stimulate each other while they wait for your attention.
Check out Barney Bushes dog. Google for the Christmas video, it's cute of their boy.

a scottie is an all black dog with a long muzzle. and typical schnauzer of that same size is either grey, salt and pepper, black or white. google both breeds and look at the pictures. they are close to looking alike but still very easy to tell apart if they are from a decent breeder. and personally i don't prefer either of them. but a schnauzer usually has a better temperment as long as you work with and train the dog and socialize them they will be a good dog. pick which one you like the best.
