Situps and crunches work the RA (rectus ab) muscle, which is just in the 'panel' down your front. You can do millions of situps and still get monstrous love handles (as well as a bad back).

It's best to think of the WAIST as one big multidirectional joint. You need to exercise all of its different movements in every direction, if you want to keep it working properly. You also need to make sure you don't overdo one kind of movement, and neglect others.

You could try CORE workouts, or PILATES.

BELLY DANCING, SALSA, and CAPOEIRA all use a lot of waist movements, so you could maintain your midriff while you enjoy the music at the same time !

Yes of course they will! :o)
Best to do ab-crunches as they're called I think.
Keep your knees up, hands by the side of your head, elbows bent and crunch yourself up and then release and repeat - lots!

yes they will, but it would be better to mix them with abdominal crunches. they tone your stomach muscles, and sit ups enlarge them, always do more crunches than sit ups.
