It's just a virus like our flu and she should do just fine. Sometimes when you adopt from a shelter you get a "free" vet check within a certain time period. So it might be good for you to take advantage of that after picking her up.
You have to watch is she is eating OK and her breathing is not compromised by the virus. Sometimes vets give antibiotics to prevent any secondary bacterial infection.
So you will be dealing with a cat who has to go through an adjustment period to you and her new home and one that may not be feeling quite up to par. Be sure to feed her what she has been eating at the shelter so her tummy and intestines don't get upset on top of her "cold".
If you really want to help her adjust smoothly you can get a bottle of Rescue Remedy from a health foods store for $16 and treat her with that. You just shake the bottle well and put three or four drops on the fur between her ears - do it at least four times a day. If she hides under a bed or something you can put the drops on a washcloth and put it under the bed with her. "Refresh" the cloth four times a day until she comes out to explore. Then put it on her fur.

Did they cold, or respiratory disease? An RI will require antibiotics to treat - and you can ask the shelter to provide them. If it's just a cold, she should get over it once she is settled.
It is very normal for cats in a shelter to have the sneezies and runny noses, because of all the cats in the same room, giving each other colds and sneezing on each other.
I do not see a problem, just make sure she looks otherwise a healthy (ie not a LOT of eye goopies, no swollen eyes, no major rasping breath etc). When you bring her to the vet after you get her, ask for his advice also - any immediate medical attention should be covered by the shelter.

I once adopted a cat from a shelter that had a "cold" prior to taking him home. He died the next day because it wasn't a cold, it was Parvo. I'd tread lightly with this one. Ask the shelter if their vet can look at the cat before you make the commitment. I was heart broken, even after just having the cat for one day.

I adopted a cat from the HUMANE SOCIETY.. here in Toronto.. CANADA... and it had a cold.. It was awful.. that cat made 1 of my other kiity sick from her cold.. if you own other cats in your home they should have all their shots up to date if not.. then they all will get the cold from your kitty that you brought home.. and then they all will have to get imunized again.. and they'll have to take eye drops and pills till they get better or for at least 2-3 wks.
It's sad when your kitty has a cold.. but the vet should give you medicine before you bring your kitty home.. I would not suggest getting the kitty if you have my experience at hand.. but if this is your only kitty.. and all your other kitties (if you have more) are all up to date with their shots then you should be fine to bring your TREASURE home.. But do be careful because it can be very costly..

Yes. Still adopt this cat. What better way for you to realize the responsibilities to pet ownership than to immediately take care of an illness. And, I truly believe that the cat, on some level, will know you are taking care of it.

You should def. get her. If you dont they may put her to sleep. What she has is prob just a respiratory infection and once you take her to the vet they will give you clavamox which cost like 10-15 dollars and that works for 10 days then it should start to clear up.

One to three weeks, same as you. Yes get her! Unless you wanna come over to my house and pick one out, they are really cute. She will get over her cold much faster with less chance of secondary infections if she is in your home as opposed to the shelter!
