I have a Basset hound that is almost 7-years-old. Over the past couple years, he's developed these lumps on him. Mostly on his back. They don't seem to bother him. He has one now on his leg that he's gnawing at and I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow, but I was curious as to what it might be. I'm afraid it's going to be something bad. He's my "baby" and just want to know if anyone has any ideas.

I have 2 basset hounds, and my older one, claire, got those bumps all the time. Theyre fatty cysts. very common in basset hounds. you can choose to get them removed which we had to do for one of them, but most of the time, if they dont bother the dog, you dont need to. Keep a watch out for the, believe me i know exactly how you feel. whenever my basset hound started getting hers, i flipped out. dont worry. theyre the best kind of dogs to have! <3

without seeing what you are referring to as a lump no one can tell you anything for sure. you're doing the right thing and the vet will be able to tell you if it's something to worry about or not. try not to stress too much over it, if it's been going on for the past couple of years, and a vet hasn't checked it before. one more day shouldn't be too hard not to worry.

Our cocker spaniel had the same thing. The lumps turned out to be fat deposits, which is apparently fairly common as dogs age. It is good to have them looked at though as one of the lumps on our pooch ended up being a tumour, which the vet removed.

It could be a lot of things, and it's good that you're talking to the vet. One of my two dogs has cancer, but until very recently, he had no obvious outward manifestations of it. My other dog has lumps all over her, and has for years, and they're just cysts.

Just hope for the best, and don't get yourself worked up before you know what's going on.

Good luck, and I hope your baby is fine!

Your dog isnt old but he is getting there. The lumps may just be fatty tumors or they could be something more serious, like cancer. I knew a dog that had many lumps on her and they were tumors but they didnt hurt her at all and she lived to be very old. You can have them removed but there is a chance that they will just grow back. Good luck

Without seeing them, no one is going to know. But at least you are taking him to the vet to have them checked out. He/she will probably aspirate them and have them checked for cancer.
I have a 17yr old dog who has moles and lumps here and there. They just turned out to be fatty lymphomas. Very common with older dogs. I was almost sure it was cancer (given her age) but was glad to find out it wasn't.
Dont stress over it until you get the results back..it may just be an "old age thing"
Good Luck!

We have a 16 year old border collie / dalmation mix who has had bumps like you describe for 4 or 5 years now. He started out with one on his lower chest, and later got one on his leg and one on his snout that really worried us. Our vet told us they were benign and not to worry. I guess he was right considering our dog's age now. He did mess with the one on his leg for awhile, but we stopped it by using one of those cones on him at night which was when he seemed to chew at it the most. After awhile it must have stopped bothering him, because we no longer had to use the dreaded cone. PetSmart sells them.

Good luck.

Lots of dogs get cysts when they get older - they're nothing to worry about. That's likely what your basset has, but your vet will confirm.

Those are benign growths. Many older dogs seem to get them, including mine. I would ask your vet to look at them to make sure the next time your dog sees the vet.
