I currently have an '04 Chevy Malibu which I love and it's great on gas, hasn't had any major mechanical breakdowns and it is very appealing to the eye and an overall safe car - I made it through a solid winter of snowstorms a couple of years back even (during a time where some dumbasses didn't know how people could get anywhere without an SUV). I believe they start under 20k. But though I love my car, I think I will finally be moving on to an SUV by the end of the year because I'm tired of truck headlights blinding me in my mirrors. That, and planning on getting jetskis in the next year or two and would be easier to tow.

I own and drive a 2003 Saturn Vue 4cyl, 5-speed I bought used almost 2 years ago with 25,000 miles and I love it.

Insurance is cheaper than most crossover SUV's, I get 25 mpg even when I dog it out, and I enjoy driving it.

It's almost as big as a Trailblazer or Explorer on the inside, but it gets the gas mileage of smaller cars like the Chevy Cavalier, or Saturn Ion, which it shares it's drive train with.

My suggestion to you is to find out what you'd like to buy, see which has the lowest insurance cost, highest gas mileage, and lowest maintenance costs over 5 to 6 years, and consider the vehicle with the best overall figures.

I got the Saturn because the insurance was half what I was paying on my 2004 Trailblazer that was stolen, and it got twice the gas mileage.

At any rate, research what you want on www.edmunds.com and good luck on your future purchase.

I love my Dodge Ram 1500. Love love love.

If you are not in a hurry you can order a car online once you know what you want www.carsdirect.com. I did that. I got a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 for $15900 and on the lot it would have been $25000. The more popular the car the less the discount. You can pick and choose your options, colors, etc. You can even arrange financing.

Love love love my truck

go drive everything.... focus on what your current and future needs are and don't get caught up in the whole ego or prestige of owning a certain type car.

Cars are a depreciating asset, they all lose money so choose wisely based on your real needs. There are some great deals right now on leftover 2006 models, start there but do your internet homework first

I'd be careful abouting buying anything on eBay, my cousin bought a car for $3,000 and got ripped off. He paid and they never contacted him, he got played. Just beware!
