What an asshole!! I'd definitely be getting a different and definitely more caring doctor. Surely he will.

My brother had cancer when he was 34 and the doctor gave him a note for the Medicare disability office saying he was terminal and only had 6 months to live. It wasn't even sealed. He knew he was bad, but I don't think that doctor was very tactful either. I think they're all so callused. He got his first diability check 3 weeks after he died. Something is wrong with our system.

Did that really happen? Eating in front of people in general is considered kind of rude, but I wouldn't consider eating while breaking such bad news -- it seems like you'd want to have full concentration on the task at hand. What a shame.

And I agree with the person who suggested that they might want to look for a different doctor. In fact, they might even want to tell the doctor about how they felt so he might not do that to any other patients.

I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriend's father's illness and I hope that her family will be comforted at this difficult time.

You need to understand that it is not an easy thing for a doctor to tell a patient they are dieing, no matter how many times they have did it. Maybe that is a way the doctor copes with the pain of having to tell the person the bad news

My parents had a very rude oncologist. My mom finally told him listen this the first time we have had cancer and we would appreciate it if you would approach us like this is the first time you have had to tell someone they were dying. She also told him she would hate having to give the state licensing agency a call. He became very nice after that. It is amazing that a Dr would be so blase about delivering news like this. I do wish you and your girlfriends family the best as it is a hard thing to go through.

That is extremely rude. I've seen people eat lunch at bad times, but not that bad.

What seems to happen a lot is that I'll go into a store or someone's office and they will be eating lunch and smacking their lips.

I'm not one to correct people for talking with food in my mouth, but I absolutely HATE it when people are in the middle of a *inserts food into mouth*....sorry....sentence, and they add food into their mouth. It's so distracting and rediculously rude.

That is terrible and sounds very unprofessional of this doctor--to actually be EATING while he tells a patient his diagnosis. I would definitely seek out another doctor, that is awful.

I too share your thought on this that it was a very rude behaviour on the doctor's part.
