You can start at Santa Monica College which is really the heart of the area called West LA. Then, transfer to UCLA in Westwood- an area that can be considered part of West LA. Or, you can just go directly to UCLA.

Or, close to the West LA area is the Airport area. Close by is the National University. Loyola Marymount is also close by that area.

Caution: "nearby in LA means driving distance- near like 10-20 min" not walking distance. Approximately, anything within 10 miles is "close"

Unfortunately, this school is not in the LA area, its in Orange County, but its the best Psychology School ever! Its University of California Irvine, in the OC. If your serious about your BA in Psychology, I would definitely UCI. UCI has two departments in Psychology, one in Social Sciences which is Cognitive Psychology and the other is Behavioral Psychology in the school of Social Ecology. I studied behavioral psychology and its an awesome major that practical to life. Talks on relationships, communications, etc. Cognitive Psychology goes in depth with medical psychology and I know people who graduated to go on to Med school from it. Ive also known people who have majored both and have mastered the art of Psych! Irvine is beautiful too and its a great place to study without LA distractions. Its worth checking out. Good luck! www.uci.edu

It can save you a small fortune if you get your lower division credits at a community college, then transfer to a "real" school. Get in to the CC's Transfer Alliance Program or similar. It fast tracks you into a 4-year college.

And check with a counselor for the particulars.
