How good of an idea is it to send a dog around with a crystal ID tag instead of the standard metal?

At first glance I though "Wow, perddy..." and then though "Wouldn't that be breakable?" but serious, when is there going to be that much force on the tag?

Any body with experience? Anyone just know if it's a bad idea or a good option?

I ask because I cannot picture a scenario that the tag could be broken in. Even *god forbid* getting hit by a car wouldn't do it I don't think.

Things can happen. The worst thing I could think of is that your dog could chew it. Also, I make mine wear a rabies tag and dog license and a microchip alert tag plus my return to owner tag. I'm guessing all of that could scuff the perddy right off a crystal tag.

The most important thing to consider, though is that any tag can be removed. One of my dogs pulled hers off her collar by herself. A thief could remove the tag. The best option for (almost)guaranteeing getting your dog back is a tag of any kind AND a microchip.

Hello, fellow dog-lover!
Ive tried many types of different dog tags: plastic, metal, foam, polyurethane and combinations of materials.
So far none of these materials has ever had too much force on it to cause it to break. I would imagine that the thickness of the crystal would give you a good idea of whethr or not it would be breakable.
What might be of some concern is if the tag rubs against another type of tag, that could cause wearing or scratching.
A crystal ID would be awesome! What a beautiful ornament and practical as well! Especially if they come in different shades, to match the color of the collar, etc.
