i don't think there is any specific meaning for any placement of tattoos. i never got why people put so much importance on "where" something is or what some certain thing "means" not everything is so deep. some things just are what they are and nothing more.
also for the girl that said guys like big tattoos and girls like small ones... i'm pretty sure i have disproved that theory. seeing as how my whole back is in the process of being tattooed.

People are individuals and I think its a stupid thing to label tattoo locations as having meanings or being sexually bias. Sure more females will get ankle tattoos and lower back tattoos, but it shouldn't matter if a guy gets one there.
Its the TATTOO image itself that has all the meaning (unless its flash art), not the location. And some things just are what they are and you just need to take it at that. Its all very personal, so don't judge or poke fun at someone who did something you wouldn't.

Theres Not so much a placement meaning, But there are like "tattoo rules of placement" Liek if your a guy. Your susposed to start from the top of your arm down, for sleeves. You SHOULD never get your hands or Neck tattooed without having your arm or arms sleeved first. And then theres just placements where it "trashy" Its trashy for girls to have they're necks,hands and nuckles tattooed.
Calf tatts are cool as long as it takes up your entire calf.
Shoulder tattoos are not so cool in my opinion.
Ankle is cool too.

I don't know. Personally I don't like tattoos on women's calves. Usually I don't, I mean. You have to think about how it's going to look twenty years down the line.
The ankle is kind of a girly place. Don't hate me for saying it. I've seen men with ankle tattoos however. I mean, if it's a cool enough tattoo, you can pull it off wherever you get it!

there are placement meanings:
a tattoo on the ankle, especially like a band of some sort symbolizes that you are a prisoner, either spiritually or physically
a tattoo on your wrist means the same thing, handcuffs
a tattoo on your shoulder symbolizes something that means A LOT to you, because you are carrying it on your shoulder
a tattoo on your upper arm symbolizes something that gives you strength or something you have faith in
a tattoo on your calf symbolizes motivation and endurance
a tattoo on your lower back symbolizes that you are "open to fertility"
a tattoo on your bosom symbolizes sexuality
the very commen tattoo band around your upper arm was origionally done by american peace corps volunteers returning from their two years in another country
a small star between your thumb and index finger has different meanings, for bikers it means a fallen commrade, the stidda (a mafioso group) used it as a sign of membership
in most cultures, it is more acceptable for men to get tattoos than it is for women to do so. but in todays culture, many women are getting tattoos, and so it is becoming much more acceptabe (yay!) :)

It's mostly individual, however there are certain places a guy shouldn't get one.
Across the waistline on the lower back, unless it is part of a much larger tat, should only be done by chicks. Likewise around the front pubic area, only chicks should get them there.
Other than that I've seen guys with cool tats around the ankles, the key is to not get a girly tat. If it looks manly, it doesn't matter where it is located.

my brother have a tattoo shop and he said to me once that the men like a big tattoo all there arm or back, but to the girls like sweet and small in the ankle or the shoulder.

tattoos are highly personal. I dont buy into certain spots for certain people .I have two personally. One on each inner wrist. i got them there because it is not as noticable, and I can hide them when in certain occasions.
Find a place you like, then find the image you like. and have the image placed everywhere your bedroom, desk, bathroom mirror look at everyday and then in 3 months if you still like it... go for it..

I say it's your body and you can put a tattoo anywhere you want but I don't advise you to put them on your face, neck, writs or any where else that sould pervent you from getting a job!
