dance outside of the church? And by dance I mean any type of dance. Ballroom, just moving back and forth, salsa, ANY form. I have been told that dancing is wrong unless you're dancing specifically for God or you're dancing in church to church music by some. Has any other Christian out there heard this? I am wondering because I've been trying to live better and live for Jesus and according to some i have to follow this rule of not dancing unless it's for church or specifically for God.

No it's not wrong for a Christian to dance. Unless of course you are doing it on a pole or naked in front of a bunch of people, then God would have a problem with it. To me it is just like having a drink of wine, not every drink you have is going to be communion. It's all what you are feeling and the reason you are dancing. If you are having lustful feelings about someone you are not married to then you are dancing for the wrong reason. However if you are dancing to have fun and enjoy yourself then God isn't going to view that as sin.

I love to goof off and dance around. I am a strong believer in Christ and don't want to do anything that would dissapoint him. You've got ballroom dancing, and dancing at a club. Ballroom, you're dressed nice, having a good time doing what you love. Something you've worked hard at. I see nothing wrong with it. Dancing at a club, however...you're a more than likely dancing to music God would not approve of....dancing with and around people that are not of God...and attracting attention to your body. Which is wrong.

So I believe that as long as your intentions are right, and you are involved in a dance that is classy, graceful, and clean, you're perfectly fine =]

There is NOTHING wrong with dancing! Dance can be beautiful, and is good exercise. I believe in God, but don't allow a church to box you in and make you feel guilty for things that are not wrong. That is what is wrong with organized religion. Their are many instances of dance in the Bible.

I have heard that some churches do not allow dancing (I think the Jehovah's Witnesses?), but there is nothing in the scriptures that I'm aware of that forbids it. In fact, there are many references in the scriptures to righteous people who danced during celebrations, so I'm pretty sure that dancing is ok.

Some denomination permit it some do not.....so your local spiritual leader can tell you the mores of your branch of Christianity

Personally I do not see it as a problem.....Dance is an art.....look at ballet and modern dance

They are great classic dances...the waltz, the tango....fun dancing like the twist, the pogo......that fun sociable events

As for getting on the dance floor and acting like it is sex.....

Like most things in life.....classic or moderate activities are kewl..their are always people who push the envelope....that is their choice and does not you engagement in bad.

Think of it as this way.....lots people own guns for safety...or to hunt but they never murder anyone.......why should you be penalized for using an item properly when a few misuse it

Same with doing an activity that is enjoyable!!

You need to pray and think. This is an issue you need to get right between you and God. Paul wrote that everything was permissable but not everything was profitable. Try to spend more time with your personal dancing with God as you search for the answer. In worshipping God in the dance, he will reveal to you the answer. Be ready to accept his answer. God Bless

No. It is not wrong.
I doubt that God likes dancing like, grinding an stuff like that, because its very sensual and usually causes ppl to think...ucky thoughts, but I can't find anything in the Bible about not dancing outside of church.

It sounds like there's a manmade 11th commandment there. As far as dancing, I think it shouldn't be sleazy because we are to be like the Father and do things decent and in order and flee the appearance of sin. Once you get older, you'll slow down on dancing anyway so enjoy while you're young. There's worse things you could do.

No it is not wrong to dance outside church. It is perfectly fine, and a good way to meet someone.

PS I would have found something in the Bible about it if it were a sin. Dance till you can not move if you want. :)

Dance is so many things and is done for so many reasons, both moral and immoral...

Portions of Christianity are against dance, IMHO, largely because it is easier to outright ban an art form that can be expressed in moral purity and bring honour and glory to God and His Church than it is to encourage and help ppl to grow to spiritual and emotional maturity so that they can clearly see what kinds of dance are done immorally and decide for themselves...

Beware of spirituality that births fear or false guilt or that encourages unreasoned/questioned control...
