A friend of mine has tickets to go to the US in a couple of weeks, has a caution from 6-7 years ago, US embassy said an apointment would take months, has anyone else been in this situation and got in on a visa waiver?

To the American that posted: You can get WRONGFULLY arrested. You can also get arrested for very minor things, typical response you would expect from an American really :-)

Phil,
Even with an appointment today, it would take months to process so it looks like your friend is out of luck. He could try without the visa, but if anything if found out, he'll be banned forever.
Good luck though. I honestly hope you and he can get over here.
As far as they "typical" response. There are idiots everywhere, yes, even in the UK. I guess our idiots just have more access to the internet to prover their idiotness. You'll find, if you do visit, the "typical" responses you expect from "typical" Americans are a far cry from reality.

With all due respect, I hope this friend of yours does not get their visa. We have enough ex-cons here already.
